Mathira Mohammad most commonly known as Mathira is a Pakistani model, actress, singer, television actress and hostess. She has appeared in many music videos and is known for her item songs. In a sudden turn of events Mathira took to Instagram and shared her experience when the starlet Sonya Hussain bullied her at the IPPA awards.
The starlet stated the incident in detail explaining that after her divorce she was dealing with depression and mental health and was very insecure with regard to her looks. Only to add to her sufferings, when all the celebrities were headed towards the location of the awards Sonya Hussain called her names. Mathira stated: “She thought I am a she-male and was so belittled commenting on me.” She remembers the time when she cried because of her and recalls the time when the latter bullied her. “I hope you remember how you bullied me, called me names”, shared Mathira. The starlet also appreciated Azfar Rehman for standing up for her and comforting her.
“He hugged me and told me to smile “, said Mathira.
Sadly, with every other day another ludicrous beauty standard is imposed over the women. Not only coming this from a celebrity but it has become a general trend of Pakistani audience too. Mathira has been one of the celebrities who has faced this problem many times. Earlier, when the actor shared a picture of herself in a tight -fitting purple dress on instagram stories she was met with hateful comments about her body size. The body shaming was so intense that the actor had to address it. She then posted a lengthy note calling out people for bullying her.
“I am so tired of people saying why I have done implants and all, seriously it’s a shame I have hormonal imbalances stop it, if I do surgeries, I will certainly own up. I have put on weight but please stop calling me plastic”.
In tears, the actors recalled that she had begun to walk in different way to stop bringing attention to her changing body parts and even wished that she didn’t exist anymore.
It is such a pity that we are living in 21st century yet so iconoclastic and empathetic that we are not ready let anyone live their life. Be it celebrities or the general audience, everyone is in the same boat. I pray that the world may become a better place for all of us. It’s high time that instead of pulling each other down we start lifting each other up.
