Well known face of the media industry, Naila Jaffery lost her battle to cancer on Saturday after fighting with cancer for the last six years. The news was confirmed by her family and the President Arts Council, Ahmed Shah.
Jaffery was diagnosed with ovarian cancer back in 2016. However, she recovered and then relocated to the Northern areas of Pakistan where she stayed for two to three years.
Back in April, a heart-wrenching video of the famed actress surfaced on the internet in which she talked about the financial strains she was facing due to her prolonged illness.
Jaffery had requested TV channels to pay her royalties for rerunning her dramas multiple times in a video shared straight from hospital by Director Furqan T Siddique.
Jaffery had said that she had been suffering from cancer for the last six years and she was unable to get a second session of chemotherapy.
The actor said that she was hospitalized with infection, adding: “I kept on thinking that our government and policy makers should take care of artists.”
After her video went viral on social media, Sindh Minister for culture,tourism and Antiques Sardar Ali Shah announced that the provincial government will bear the expenses of her treatment. Naila reportedly turned down the offer.
She will be laid to rest after Isha prayers at the Army graveyard at Chanesar Goth. Naila Jaffery’s brother, said his sister’s funeral prayers will be offered later today at Defense Phase II, and she will be buried at the Army Cemetery on Kala Pul.
Early Life
Naila Jaffery is a renowned tv actress who has made great contributions to the entertainment industry. She had more than twenty years of involvement in the TV industry.
In 1998, Naila made her introduction as a voice entertainer for the TV series Drama he Drama. Jaffery had at last made her on screen entrance in 2004 in Mehak. From that point onwards, she depicted Ayesha in I’m Locked (2007).
In 2009, she appeared in her famed mini series Noorpur ki Rani, which earned the actor a lot of fame in the media industry. Besides, her last works were in 2015 in TV series like Tera Mera Rishta and Anaya tumhari hui. Tragically, she quit working in 2016 presumably because of her disease.
