Recently, Sadaf Kanwal was trending on Twitter due to her statements on feminism. The video included the clip of Sadaf Kanwal’s interview in Eid Show “Humare Mehmaan” went viral due to the opinion of Sadaf on feminism and Aurat March.
When asked whether the women in our society are oppressed she replied, ” A woman is not oppressed or miserable, I think she is powerful. I think I am very strong and surely you (host) will be strong.”
Aurat March according to Sadaf Kanwal is totally a different debate.
Moreover, when the host raised a question regarding feminism, Sadaf replied, “Our culture is our husband. Being a wife I must know where my husband’s belongings are kept. I must iron his clothes, which I usually don’t do, but I know where his clothes are kept. I must polish his shoes and take care of him that what and when he wants to eat.”
She also said that ” It is my responsibility as a wife and this is what I have observed while growing up.”
” In my opinion, feminism is taking care of my husband and all his necessities. I must know more about him than he knows about me. The other thoughts about feminism are of increasing liberals in our society.”
After her thoughts went viral, they received mixed reviews from the netizens. Many of them appreciated her for her viewpoints while a large community was against her opinions.
Similarly, her statements were argued on the 24News channel in a show where social worker Tahira Abdullah gave her opinion and seemed unhappy with Sadaf’s perspective on feminism.
These are her words, “Whatever she is doing she must do it in her house, but she has no right to impose her thinkings on anyone. Who is she to tell us that we should iron our husband’s clothes or polish their shoes. And even in the house, a woman should not be forced to do so.”
In response to Tahira Abdullah’s words, Kahlil-ur-Rahman spoke up in Sadaf Kanwal’s favor and reproached the social worker.
He said, ” Sadaf Kanwal did not impose anything on anyone, whatever she is doing for her husband is her act. Sadaf has said nothing wrong at all, and it is not wrong if a woman is doing all these chores at her house. People have the freedom to do what they like to do at their homes and no one is supposed to yell and enforce their rules on anyone.”
These are Khalil-ur-Rehman’s words which show that he is supporting Sadaf Kanwal’s opinion on feminism.
