Flight Profile of the New Shepard
The mission will take place on board Blue Origin’s New Shepard vehicle, a reusable rocket and capsule. Since 2015, It has launched the rocket multiple times into space from a site in Texas, America.
Once the rocket reaches the maximum height, the capsule carrying six people detaches itself from the rocket. According to Blue Origin’s website, the company plans to launch its passengers more than 100km (62 miles) above the Earth’s surface allowing them to experience microgravity. The capsule returns safely under a parachute.
Bezos’ announcement is quite surprising as he has not yet proven that it can safely launch humans. Believing the flight to be successful, he will become the first of several billionaires also planning to go to space soon.
