Artificial Intelligence Bicycle

By this time, we have witnessed numerous applications of artificial intelligence in almost every sector. However, when the artificial intelligence system for vehicles is discussed, we talk about the development of autonomous cars. Although major companies are using artificial intelligence to develop self -driving cars, there are some researchers and developers who are teaching AIs to ride a bicycle.

AI powered autonomous bicycle

A team of engineers at Huawei has developed a fully autonomous bicycle that uses Artificial intelligence, cameras and sensors to ride itself. It arrives with a series of impressive features which enables it to run without a man.

The lead engineer in the project is Zhihui Jun, came up with the idea after he got into a bicycle accident. After the accident he realized the need of self-driving bicycles. The engineers began by making a detailed Computer Aided Design (CAD) model of the bicycle. They then added various components to control the movement of the bicycle.

Along with his team of engineers, they put together an autonomous control system, a perception sensor network and a chip that operates as the brain of the system and renders the required computing power.

The team added two brushless motors and a steering gear to control the faucet. They also installed an RGBD depth sensor, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, and a LiDAR sensor. There is also a 6S model airplane power battery onboard that can power the bike for 2-3 hours. The primary computing module, which is the “brain” of the bike, sits underneath the seat and right above the rear wheel.

Jun used the company’s orchestration service and ascended 310 as the Artificial intelligence processor to develop the module. And Thanks to Jun’s work, the AI bike is now qualified for perceptive thinking and decision making. However, Huawei’s self-driving book is still under operation which implies that it has not reached its final shape yet. But we are sure we will not have to wait for too long to witness the common sight of it in the market.
