The popular face book owned messaging app is working on developing a new feature for the verification of users instead of sending them codes. This is Whatsapp flash call feature and it might not work on some smartphones, continue reading to find out why?
This new whatsapp feature is to log in to a new mobile device easily and quickly, in addition to the existing SMS method. The app supports message-based authentication which will be augmented with this latest feature.
Presently, the whatsapp users are required to enter a six-digit code for verification which is sent to them by whatsapp. It is automatically done by the Google Play Services on android while on ios, the code is automatically copied to the clipboard so that it can be pasted using keyboard. This new feature is being designed to simplify this process for the users.
This new feature was first spotted at the Whatsapp beta version 2.21.11.7 of the app, by noted feature leaker WABetainfo. According to this feature, whatsapp will send a call to the user instead of the SMS and will automatically end the call once the call is detected by the app. WBetainfo also says that, whatsapp will be using different number each time so that it is difficult to trick the system.
Although it is suggested that the new whatsapp feature will make it easier to log in to other devices once it’s rolled out yet the question rises here that it is easier to just receive an SMS to verify or putting SIM card into another device just to get a flash call.
Security Concerns:
Moreover, another thing to be noticed is that the Whatsapp’s new feature will not be working on iOS. This is due to the security and privacy constraints set by apple, as this new feature will require to access the call log of the user so, it maybe a privacy concern for some people. Since, applications have no way to request an access to the iphone, it is impossible for the face book owned company to implement this feature on apple devices.
However, the new whatsapp feature is still under development and it is still not known that when the feature will arrive, or whether it will launch with support for multiple devices in the coming months.
