Covid-19 has been all over the world and it made a lot of people suffer. All traveling was banned due to this virus because it spreads from person to person. Many people lost their loved ones due to this virus. It affected people of all age groups. When you cough, sneeze, talk, and even breath there are chances of this virus to spread. A few SOPs were made all over the world that everyone had to follow. These SOPs include wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, avoid gatherings, avoid hugging & handshakes, all institutions were also closed. Then the countries introduced their vaccines and everyone was said to get vaccinated which resulted in reduced cases.
According to research, it is said that the tears of the covid-19 patients can also be the source of the spreading of coronavirus. The “aerosols” remain the dominant source of infection that spreads the virus.
In the Government Medical College in Amritsar, research took place to know the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in tears of covid positive patients with and without ophthalmic and ophthalmological condition that can be the first symptom and can be caused directly or indirectly by a disease in another part of the body. This research was based on a sample size of 120.
In the latest news, the Indian media has announced that out of 120 covid patients who tested positive 60 had ocular manifestation and 60 had not.
The covid-19 virus is spreading faster with the help of different variants. An average covid-19 infection was found in 37% of the individuals with the optic symptoms, whereas a critical infection was found in 63%, follicular response in 38, mucoid discharge in 20 affected patients, chemosis in 35, and Conjunctival hyperemia was found in 41, researchers said.
“About 17.5% of patients who under evaluation for RT-PCR of tears were positive for covid-19 out of which 11 patients (9.16%) had ocular manifestations and 10 (8.33%) did not have any ocular complaint, pointing out that coronavirus infected patients can shed the infection in conjunctival secretions even in the absence of ocular involvement” according to the report.
According to the study and research, the ophthalmologists are requested to maintain distance while checking their patients and should be more careful to keep the safety.
