In the wake of recent surge in the positive cases for COVID, Prime Minister Imran Khan pointed out the threat of fourth COVID wave in the country. Prime Minister on Thursday, urged the masses to take safety precautions, wear a mask and to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest.
The Delta (Indian) Variant has already claimed the lives of millions of, thousands of people in India coupled with oxygen shortages.
“Our Corona virus cases after a downslide, have started rising up. We fear that the Delta variant is coming to Pakistan. I appeal to the nation to use face mask, which is the easiest way, and take protective measures.” said Imran Khan in a live telecast.
The positivity rate of COVID was two percent last month which has surged to 3.33 percent this month making the situation alarming. Pakistan reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases since June 4.
On the other hand, the NCOC has asked to accelerate the process of vaccination so a large number of people can get vaccinated and develop immunity for the disease.
To tackle with the situation of the fourth variant, NCOC has chalked out an effective plan.
“Failure to take precautionary measures against the delta variant can lead to dangerous consequences”, said the statement.
The forum also decided that enforcement of safety precautions would be jacked up, specifically during the period of 9th to 18th July because of the Eid-ul-Azha ahead.
To curb unnecessary movement on Eid, a number of proposals are under consideration keeping in view the situation of virus spread.
The NCOC has asked the workers of several industries to get vaccinated by July 31. These industries include the workers of small scale and large-scale industries, employees of agriculture, media sector, mosques and workshops and wedding halls and the private corporate sector employees.
Moreover, the students aged above 18 are also required to get themselves vaccinated by August 31.
According to World Health Organization (WHO) “it is the most transmissible of the variants identified so far”. Thus, it is important to take care of ourselves and our families and follow all the SOP’s along with creating awareness among the people.
