Around 40 Dead Bodies Found In One Of Myanmar's Jungles

The Myanmar army overthrew the government on 1st February 2021. The army had been in charge of the state from 1962 till 2011. In 2011, the civilian rule returned but could not be there for long. In February, the army imposed a state of emergency and the state is now under the control of the military commander-in-chief Min Aung Hlaing. This action was condemned by leaders all over the world for allegedly attacking minorities.

Many protests were arranged by civilians who did not accept the military intervention. People from every profession of life participated in them.  Security forces have imposed restrictions which include curfews.

Recently, Myanmar’s civilians came across a scary situation. The Myanmar militia force and the residents found almost 40 dead bodies in jungles. The bodies showed different marks which indicated torture. Since February 1, the army has violently killed hundreds of civilians that have been a part of protests against them. Not only this, but the army also has the blood of the slightly armed local militias on their hands, says Reuters.

The small-town in the Sagaing area, Kani, has witnessed violent fights in the previous months. It is the same place around which the bodies were found. Although these claims were not verified independently by Reuters.

An unknown member belonging to the militia of Kani stated that there are now lesser fights in the area and no more bodies were found.

In the early weeks of July, 16 bodies were spotted in the nearby areas of a village. This doesn’t stop here. On July 30th, a total of 12 bodies were found and all of them showed evidence of torture and heavy bruising, as reported by The Irrawaddy newspaper.

The Thai-based activist group, Assistance Association of Political Prisoners, says that at least 946 people, including civilians, have been killed since the military intervention. The bodies found in the jungle were present under a burned hut, covered with sheets where they had started to decompose. It is terrifying to know how many innocent lives are lost in these disputes. The victims are not just grown-up men but also young children aged between 12-14 years. Be it the armed forces members or the residents, it is just human lives that are lost at the end of the day.
