On Monday, a UAE astronomer confirmed that the first day of eid-ul-Fitr will be April 21, 2023, marking the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal.
The astronomer explained that Ramadan’s full moon is expected to occur on April 20, 2023, at 8:36 a.m. local time, and the crescent moon of Shawwal will be born at 8:13 a.m. on the same day, setting 22 minutes after sunset, as reported by the local media outlet UAE Barq citing Ibrahim al-Jarwan, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomy Society.
Should the government confirm the dates, UAE citizens and residents will have a four-day weekend with Friday, April 21, and Monday, April 24, both being public holidays.
Eid-ul-Fitr is an important celebration for Muslims across the globe, signifying the conclusion of the month-long fasting period of Ramadan, during which they abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset.
