The meaty Eid-ul-Azha is around the corner, and we all are prepared to line our stomachs with the hot plates of biryani, steak and mouth-watering kebabs. With the influx of fresh, juicy and delicious meat, there comes the lack of self-control, and we end up overindulging.
But here are 5 tips so that you can stay healthy and still enjoy the meaty Eid. So here you go:
Watch out for the serving size
You might want to gulp all the juicy and succulent meat but hold on to your impulse. A large amount of protein can be hard for the liver and the kidney, as it takes a lot of time to process proteins and overdoing it can overwhelm the body leading to various health conditions including nausea, upset stomach and acidity. It is hard for anyone to hold back themselves on festivals specially on Bakra Eid, and you don’t have to deprive yourself from anything , enjoy everything but in the right amount!
Proper handling of meat
An important principle to stay healthy on Eid is the proper handling of meat, make sure that you clean the meat thoroughly, remove any visible pieces of fat and properly drain before storing it.
Since Eid-ul-Adha is mostly a summer’s festival, keeping meat out for too long can make it go bad. Similarly, if your refrigeration is not working properly, it can make the meat unfit for consumption.
Eating meat that is bad or not properly cleaned or washed can also affect your health negatively.
Take a walk
It’s Eid and no one wants to be sweating in the gym or going for a morning run, it would probably be the last thing one would do on Eid. However, with festivals like Eid when we are mostly likely to indulge in heavy meals at the same time we are most likely to pack on pounds. So, these heavy meals should be digested right away. You don’t have to go for a run, but do stuff that involves walking. Serving food to other people, putting your own utensils or leftovers back in the kitchen, these little things can help your body digest that heavy meal.
Observe healthy barbecuing protocols
No Bakra Eid is completed without barbecues and cookouts! These are the most fun get togethers when everyone can pinch in and help around with the chores.
You may be tempted to showcase your masculine barbecuing skills, but you should be careful about barbecuing not just in terms of safety. Here are some protocols that you should follow while barbecuing:
- Do not put on the meat for too long, take it out of the fridge just before cooking.
- Make your pieces adequately sized as too big pieces can remain uncooked and raw meat causes dangerous health conditions.
- Make your excess fat removed from the meat, otherwise it will drip into the coals causing a fire.
Green tea for the win
Green tea is good for facilitating digestion. Some blends help in dealing with nausea, constipation, indigestion, all the things you can expect from indulging in far too many kebabs and roasts.
Therefore, to stay healthy during Eid, try also taking moderate amounts of green tea after meals. Peppermint tea is excellent for soothing an upset stomach, especially for those suffering from IBS.
