At least three rockets landed near the Afghan Presidential house in Kabul while Afghan president and other leaders were offering Eid prayer in the garden.
Although there was no immediate claim of responsibility, it was the first attack in Kabul since the Taliban’s escalation with the withdrawal of foreign troops.
The sounds of rockets could be heard in the green zone of the presidential house which houses the presidential palace and several embassies, including the US mission.
However, most of the men continued with their prayer even as the rockets heard overhead and exploded nearby as could be seen in the video posted by the official Facebook page of the palace.
President Ghani was standing at the front in traditional Afghan clothing and a turban, and he seemed not to be recoiled as the crowd bows together.
“The Taliban have proved that they have no will and intention for peace.” said the Afghan president in a speech afterwards.
According to the Interior Ministry Spokesperson, Mirwais Stanikzai, three rockets appeared to have been fired from a pick up truck while the third rocket did not ignite. He also confirmed that according to their initial information, there are no casualties.
Earlier, the palace was attacked when thousands gathered to watch President Ghani’s inauguration ceremony while some fled after the attack.
The militant Islamic State group (IS) claimed responsibility for that attack.
However, this coincides with the sweeping Taliban offensive launched all across the country.
The statement follows another round of inconclusive talks in Doha over the weekend between the Afghan government and the Taliban that many hoped would kickstart the ailing peace process.
