Elon Musk establishes X.AI artificial intelligence company

Based on business documents that surfaced on Friday, it appears that Elon Musk has established a corporation focused on artificial intelligence named X.AI in the US state of Nevada. The state’s business filings indicate that Musk, who is already in charge of Twitter and Tesla, was appointed as the director of X.AI Corporation, which was founded on March 9.

Recently, it has been reported that Elon Musk merged Twitter with a newly established shell company called “X,” while retaining the platform’s brand name but not its business.

This move seems to have created a rival to OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, a powerful artificial intelligence system.

This is despite Musk’s recent call for a pause in AI development, in which he joined other experts in signing an open letter on the Future of Life Institute’s website, urging a six-month halt to the development of human-competitive AI systems due to the risks they pose to society and humanity.

However, the founding date of X.AI was several weeks prior to the signing of the letter.

According to an Insider report, Musk has purchased thousands of costly computing processors and hired engineering talent for an AI project at Twitter, while also significantly reducing staff as part of cost-cutting measures following his $44 billion takeover of the company in late 2022.

Meanwhile, companies such as Google, Meta, and Microsoft have been investing billions in the development of AI systems, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
